RS&N History

The railroad now known as the Red Springs & Northern had its origins in a line built by the Cape Fear & Yadkin Valley Railway from Fayetteville, NC to Bennettsville, SC between 1875 and 1881.

This paper describes the events which led to construction of the line. Less emphasis is given to changes which occurred thereafter.

This information was taken from two excellent textbooks, one by David Carriker and one by Glenn Hoffman (see references below). Each paragraph in the text is marked [in square brackets] with the name of the author and the pages from which the information was taken.
