- History:
- Line opened as San Diego & Arizona Ry between San Diego and El Centro in December 1919.
- Company reorganized as San Diego & Arizona Eastern (an SP subsidiary) in 1932.
- Line devasted by Hurricane Kathleen in September 1976, and SP suspended service.
- The San Diego Metropolitan Transit Development Board (MTDB) purchased the following segments in 1979:
- - San Diego to El Cajon
- - San Diego south to the border (near San Ysidro)
- - Plaster City west to the border (near Campo)
- Kyle Railways contracted to operate the lines, including the Mexican portion (owned by Sonora-Baja California Ry).
- Line operated by Kyle as San Diego & Arizona Eastern Transportation until 1984.
- In March 1984, MTDB signed agreement with RailTex to operated the line as the San Diego & Imperial Valley Railroad (SDIV).
- SDIV began service on October 15, 1984.
- RailTex acquired by RailAmerica on January 4, 2000.
- Line currently operated as San Diego & Imperial Valley Railroad (SDIY) by RailAmerica.
