History:: Railroad built between 1898 and 1900 during the Klondike Gold Rush.; Railroad closed on October 8, 1982.; Line reopened between Skagway and White Pass for passenger only service on May 12, 1988.; Line reopened to Fraser by 1992.; Line reopened to Bennet in 1997, with track passable as far as Carcross.; Special run made to Whitehorse on October 10, 1997, the first train since 1982.; Plans to operate entire Skagway - Whitehorse line in the future.
