Railfan Pictures of the Week - Throwback Thursday - 7/30/2020

SEPTA Norristown Line Norristown PA April 1995

Anyone wanna guess what is interesting about this photo of Conrail PIMO?

The answer is he missed his turn. More accurately, SEPTA dispatcher routed him through at CP Ford rather than diverging, meaning next stop would be Conshohocken! The engineer apparently noticed it too late to stop with the second unit sitting on the switch. From what I recall, the yard master at Abrams sent someone to CP Norris to protect hind end of the train as they shoved back. The whole process took a while which allowed me to get a series of photos that, under normal circumstances, would be tough for one person to shoot.

First, shoot PIMO at Norristown Transportation Center passing under SEPTA Norristown High Speed Line then jump in your car and drive out of the SEPTA parking lot, cross busy Route 202 Dekalb Street to Washington Street ...
drive a half mile on Washington and jump out of the car to get PIMO at the north end of CP Ford interlocking, then hop back in the car and drive to the end of Washington ...
park at the grade crossing and jump out for PIMO approaching Ford Street, catching it 3 times in about .7 of a mile.
