CSX Trenton Line

Neshaminy Falls and Philadelphia Pennsylvania

March 2017

With GE six axle locomotives seriously outnumbering EMD units on CSX, seeing EMD leaders on through freights is unusual, so it was a treat to see several this month.

March 2 2017 had CSX S301 at Neshaminy Falls with CSX SD50-2 8544 (originally built as SBD SD-50 8544) and CSX C40-9W 9048.

Five days later at the same spot, Q417 led by CSX SD40-2 8846 (CR 6482) with the plow modified for operation in third rail territory (denoted by yellow outline) and CSX SD60M 8760 (CR 5509) and CSX AC44CW 471.
Not all were standard cabs. Due to a derailment on the River Sub in Newburgh NY, CSX was rerouting traffic. For the second time in two days, K603 was on the Trenton Line, east on March 7 and now heading west on March 8. On the point of K603 was CSX SD60I 8728 (CR 5589) with UP AC45CCTE 5530 and BNSF C44-9W 680 still in its original ATSF colors.
And two days later, train K702 with SD40-2 8033 (SBD 8033, LN 8033) in the early morning rain at Red Lion Road
K702 is a new ethanol train to Philadelphia and is noted for its distinct white and black tank cars.
