SEPTA Lansdale Station Lansdale PA and Amtrak Northeast Corridor Eddingtion Station Bensalem PA July 14, 15 and 18 2018

With the retirement of the Silverliner II's and III's, the mantle of oldest SEPTA commuter car in operation was passed to their fleet of GE Silverliner IV's that were acquired between 1973 and 1976 by the Penn Central Railroad and the Reading Company, and as such, have been photographed many times over the years. Being the old kid on the block, it is hard to find a reason to point a camera in their direction. Here are two.

With an exterior of stainless steel that will last a lifetime, the Silverliners need no paint to protect them, so when SPAX 442 was spotted on July 14 2018 at Lansdale, it was unusual to say the least. For some unknown reason, the roof of the B end of the married pair has been painted white.

From ground level, it was difficult to spot at first, especially with the glare of the sun.
The next day the sun was gone but the car returned to Lansdale, and the white whale was much easier to spot with some elevation.
Its white roof stood out as compared to the other Silverliner IV's on its train and in the MU yard.
A couple days later on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, a Trenton Line train bound for Philadelphia passes some equipment that runs ahead of the TLM. Nothing special there, right? Well, yes and no. While there might be nothing unusual about the equipment ...
its orientation is unusual. SEPTA likes to have all their pantographs pointing in the same direction. Somewhere along the line, Silverliner IV SPAX 288 got turned around. Usually this is fixed by a trip to the Zoo, or more accurately, Zoo interlocking on the NEC where it can be turned via the New York-Pittsburgh subway, which was once the route of the famed Broadway Limited. As soon as they get around to it.
