My
MODERN
Windows 98 SE Gaming
System
( In The Works )
I am a video game fanatic! And I absolutely LOVE the older games I grew up on, and I refuse to just throw them away for the sake of keeping up with technology, or because there are newer and more graphic-intensive games today, or because nobody else is playing the old games anymore. The newer games of today are great and loaded with flashy, eye-candy, and I do like them... but many of them seem to lack the appeal (and in may cases, quality story lines) that many of the older games had. Like grandma used to say, "they don't stick to your ribs" the way the older games do. I'm all about eatin' things that stick to your ribs, too... especially ribs... but that is another story for another time.
But seriously, modern-day computers don't lend themselves very well to the older games... or maybe its that the older games don't lend themselves very well to modern computer technology. Either way, there are many games that I still love from the old days that simply will not work with the computers of today because of advances in hardware, software, programming methods, and in some cases, the type of media the games were shipped on. Therefore, to keep enjoying these games, I've decided to build myself a old-school computer that is taylor-made for these older games, using the best, compatible hardware that I've managed to scrounge up and piece together from all over the internet.
And here is that system...

All necessary drivers for the components above that require drivers have been found and downloaded.
That is as far as I've gotten in designing this system, but I may add a few more components to it later if the need arises.
This system is being designed specifically around the system requirements of such games as the ones below :
.
Forsaken |
Descent 3 |
Descent 3 : Mercaenary |
Battlezone |
Battlezone : The Red Odyssey |
Battlezone II |
Star Wars Jedi Knight : Dark Forces II |
Star Wars Episode 1 Pod Racer |
Star Wars Rogue Squadron |
Star Wars X-Wing |
Star Wars Tie Fighter |
Star Wars X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter |
Heretic II |
Quake |
Quake II |
Tomb Raider |
Tomb Raider II |
|
Diablo |
Diablo II |
|
The Star Wars Pod Racer game plays best to me with a joystick, so I'll be needing an old analog stick for it. The most confortable one I've ever used was the one listed below... but I can't seem to find one ANYWHERE!!!
