The Savannah And Statesboro Railway was originally chartered in 1894 as the Cuyler & Woodburn RR (C&W RR) to build a 12.5 mile line from a connection with the SA&M RY at Cuyler,GA north to Woodburn, GA (near Hubert).  Completed sometime after 1894, the C&W RR almost immediately had serious financial problems and in 1897 went into receivership and was sold on March 12, 1897.  It was soon reorganized and renamed as the Savannah & Statesboro RY with track being extended 20 miles to Statesboro.

The S&S RY operated at a profit for years and by 1910 owned 3 locomotives, 3 passenger cars, 2 baggage cars and 25 freight cars.  In November 1911, the S&S RY purchased the Savannah, Augusta & Northern RY, which operated 39 miles of track from Statesboro north through Garfield to a connection with the Georgia & Florida RY at Stevens Crossing.  The S&S RY ceased operations and abandoned its track in 1933.

The Savannah and Statesboro Railway shared trackage with the Central Railroad And Banking (later known as the Central of Georgia Railway) from Savannah, GA to Meldrim, GA passing through such towns as Pooler, Bloomingdale, and then Meldrim.  From Meldrim to a small town just west of the Ogeechee River known as Cuyler, Ga the S And S shared trackage with the Savannah And Western Railway (a division of the CRR&B (CofG)).  From Cuyler, the SandS operated on its own track passing through such towns as Blichton, Eldora, Olney, Hubert, Stilson and Brooklet... and possibly others before reaching Statesboro.
