S Scale Draft Gear Box

(For Sergent Engineering Couplers)

THE GOOD NEWS :

Surprisingly, the new Sergent couplers will work in S-Helper Service's # 01295 and the # 00588 gear boxes!

THE BAD NEWS :

Although the new Sergent couplers will work in the SHS gear box, they will not do so without a good bit of modification to the
coupler's shank.  The thickness of the Sergent coupler's shank must be reduced, and the width of the shank must be very
slightly reduced at it's widest point (the outer edges of the shank parallel to the screw-post hole).  The following diagram
shows the modifications that are needed to make the new Sergent couplers work in the SHS 01295 and 00588 gear box :

To make life easier, I have decided to design a small, closer-to-scale gear box similar to the SHS gear box that will work
with the new Sergent couplers without needing to modify the coupler's shank.  This new gear box will also be narrower than
the Kadee gear boxes and therefore closer to scale size.  Due to the length of the shank on Kadee's 802 and 808 couplers,
Kadee couplers will not work in this new gear box.
