SEMO Rails - Railroad Signals

November 6, 2006 Possible Searchlight Signals

I went down in the ex-SSW Cotton Belt Yard today to take a look at three US&S H-2 Searchlight Signals that were removed from Malden Junction here in Malden, MO back in about 1996 just prior to the SP/UP Merger and replaced with these new G Heads.

I spoke to a UP MOW Employee who said I needed to talk to the Signal Maintainer about acquiring them. The good news is that I know him, and if the railroad scrap company out of Joplin, MO doesn't already have them, I have a good shot at either having them given to me or buying them for scrap since they've laid there for 10 years. They have the masts with them, so I might be able to get those too.

A look at the signals laying in the yard next to the UP Jonesboro Sub.

Taking a look at the targets on them, they appear to all be in decent condition. The one at the far right is missing its outside lens, or it is laying around somewhere. It was raining so I was in a little bit of a hurry and I didn't look for it.

The signals with fairly new masts laying beside them which I believe the signals were mounted to.
