The 81 class locomotife is regarded as a highly useful locomotive by its user. It also has an appearance which is best described as cute but rugged.

It's carbody twin-cab design enabling the locomotive to be operated for short haul duty without the need for turntable. Like shunting or inter-city hauling.

It is like EMD SD locos in British-style carbody design.

Originally built for New South Wales's State Railway Authority, the locos were later transferred newly formed FreightCorp and National Rail company when SRA disposed its freight division.

Its reliable construction and design would mean these locos would get a bright future in decades ahead.
