GAF Materials - Dallas, Texas
|
GAF Materials, a producer of construction and roofing materials, has a manufacturing facility
west of downtown Dallas. The plant is home to a switch engine which is sometimes
visible from public streets in the area.
GAF's Dallas plant is located 2600 Singleton Blvd., near the intersection of Singleton and
Fishtrap Rd. From I-30, take Hampton Road north to Singleton and then go west on Singleton
to Fishtrap. The plant is near the southwest corner of the intersection. South of the plant,
GAF's trackage connects with the Union Pacific Dallas Subdivision. The lead to the plant
is visible from public property on the east side of the plant where Fishtrap reaches a dead-end
at the UP tracks. This is a good spot from which to observe switching moves.

GAF 1222 was photographed at GAF's Dallas plant on July 8, 1997. During my most recent visit
(June 16, 2000) to the GAF facility in Dallas, I was unable to find this engine. I would be
interested in hearing from anyone who can provide information on its present location.
