On September 16, 2000, Trinity Railway Express held inauguration ceremonies for three new
stations on its expanded commuter route: CentrePort / DFW (in North Arlington), Hurst / Bell,
and Richland Hills. Several dignitaries -- including US Representative Kay Granger and
US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison -- spoke at the ceremonies. The following Monday,
September 18, TRE commenced service on its expanded route, placing into service its
newly acquired F59PH locomotives and bi-level coaches, with some leased Amtrak equipment to
help meet the ridership demand until additional bi-level equipment arrived.
Ridership on the expanded route was immediately an overwhelming success;
parking lots at the new stations frequently overflowed, forcing passengers who arrived
late to park their cars on the street or in vacant lots near the stations. TRE has been
working to add additional parking capacity for these stations.
In October 2001, TRE is scheduled to begin service into downtown Ft. Worth.
