Tower 16's days were numbered in this May, 2001 shot of Santa Fe "Warbonnet" B40-8W 570 leading a northbound local over the TNER (Texas Northeastern) crossing. By the end of October, 2001, the tower would be decomissioned and boarded up; its interlocking functions rendered obsolete when BNSF modified the area's track arrangement and transferred supervisory duties to a Fort Worth-based dispatcher; and its operators opting for retirement or finding work on other parts of the railroad.
