| Bay St. Louis station is currently not is use, as Amtrak's Board has refused to restart the Sunset Limited east of New Orleans, despite all track and signal work having been done for two years in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The money to operate the Sunset Limited from coast to coast is in Amtrak's budget, unchanged from before Katrina. The station is in good shape.
The Hancock County Tourism Bureau shares the top floor of the building with the Cultural Affairs office for the City of Bay St. Louis.
There are four restaurants and a phone within a short walking distance of the depot, while Bay Cab can be reached by calling 228-342-9226.
If you could take the Sunset Limited to Bay St. Louis, you could visit one of the Gulf's major tourist attractions, and help revitalize the local economy, the Hollywood Casino.
But you can't unless you tell your local politcal leaders and the Chamber of Commerce that you want the Sunset back.
