SUSSEX COUNTY RAILROAD CLUB MINUTES, May 2008
Meeting opened on May 31st at 8:26 P.M.
Reported from President that the annual show was a success. Extra effort for newspaper coverage did not seem to work out, as newspapers were lax in getting the notice in. Almost the same attendance as last year, door took in about $350.00 and a little more profit came from the food concession. All toll about $1200.00 earned (Our share). All vendors did well and we had almost the same amount of tables as last year. We missed Anchor Video who could not participate because of a personnel commitment.
Suggested that we would not do the Day of History at the Sussex County College next year. All membership agreed that this presentation is a problem and not worth the effort. More effort could be put forth in setting up more carefully to avoid problems and allow for testing before the show. Jeff made the motion to not be at the History day at College. Seconded, all agreed!
The club decided to do a trip to the New Hope and Ivy Railroad in September or early fall. President would check in on pricing and arrangements and report at next meeting.
Reminded all that the dues were due in June and a donation would be made to the Church in June for use of the facilities.
Mentioned the need to clean up Website, Jeff would do it soon.
Discussion about getting better participation of members running their favorite trains at show. Carl mentioned that only a few members had trains running and help were needed by all. Charlie suggested some sort of schedule for running. Some members felt that they felt guilty running trains when they did not have modules but all of the members present stated that they did not feel this as a problem. Participation definitely needed improvement at next years show. John mentioned that the club has reserved a lift section to make it easier for members to get in and out of the yard section. Some suggested that the yard be made shorter but most felt that the longer yard was needed. Most felt that a lot of membership needed instruction on how to use the switching at the yard. Ed Bush would explain the procedures along with Carl at next years show. Hopefully, the additional time for setup would allow for more time to set up schedules etc. Charlie and John mentioned the need to participate in other shows such as East Rail. Discussion about the lack of interest of those that attended East Rail in that it was not as good as before. President would be looking into what other shows we could be part of.
Meeting ended at 9:06 P.M.
