Sussex County RR Club November 2009 Meeting Minutes

MEETING MINUTES, SUSSEX COUNTY RR CLUB, NOV 2009

Meeting opened at 8:25 by president.

John displayed new railroad book available.

John spoke about the need of a new trailer for club modules. He reported on checking with Lowe’s and found a 5 x 8 trailer available for approximately $1700.00.   Ed Bush mentioned that this trailer would work and that it would be necessary to have angle brackets installed for proper storage of modules. John also mentioned checking with York Trailer and reported that they had a similar trailer available for $1600.00 and would further check on its availability.  He reported to the club that this was a necessary item and we would have to spend some money to get a better trailer.

A member spoke about putting bearing buddies on the trailer to avoid problems with bearings.  John reported that the wheel size of trailer was 14 inch. Jeff spoke about the advantage of having a good trailer that some of the corner modules could be stored in a new trailer with sufficient space. Questions were raised about the stacking of the modules and suggestions were made to have stacking racks installed by Phillips. It was also thought that the exterior could be painted to help advertise our club. Storage was still a problem that had to be worked out.

John reported speaking to Mike Delvecchio about the Morris museum and their interest in having our club set up some sort of exhibit for the holidays. Reported that the museum was located on Madison Ave. , off of Route 24. Club members seemed receptive to this idea although holiday schedules might be a problem for some.

Charlie spoke of having a set up date and date was not set up at this time. John spoke of getting in touch with Earl, Bill and Dave to help in setting up the exhibit and told members that he would be in touch by E mail or phone.

Charlie Smith reported on the Tri State functions for Toys for Tots schedule for Rail fan Christmas trains.

John reported on progress of meetings with owners of Sparta Station and was in touch by E-mail with them and they wanted to know what we had in mine with the club involvement with the Sparta Station.  They were looking for donations to get things started.

It was noted that a Lackawanna Steam locomotive that was involved in the building of the cut off was in storage somewhere in New Jersey and located.  Hopefully, more information on this will be available in the future.

Ed Bush reported that the Jefferson club would be having an open house during the holidays and also informed all of a Caster Train Auction with a lot of Lionel available on December 4th.

Members were reminded that there was no meeting scheduled for December and the January meeting would be one week earlier, January 23rd, because of members going to the Springfield train show.  Ed Bush mentioned that there was still openings to attend this train show and asked members to get to him as soon as possible for arrangements.

 Meeting ended at 8:45 P.M.

Respectfully Submitted
