THUNDERBIRD MODEL RAILROAD CLUB HOME PAGE

The Thunderbird Model Railroad Club is located in Phoenix, Arizona, at 19th Avenue and McDowell Road, on the Arizona State Fair Grounds. The club operates the PHOENIX TURNBOW AND APACHE HO Scale standard gauge railroad and the MOGOLLON and WESTERN HOn3 scale narrow gauge railroad. Visitors are welcome on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00PM to 9:30PM. The club room is located on the west side of the fair grounds under the Grandstand, across from the middle set of Grandstand stairs.

In 2003 the Thunderbird Model Railroad Club converted their layout to Digital Command Control (DCC). The club decided not to retain DC operation on the layout, with the exception of the narrow gauge Mogollon and Western portion. Roger von Seeburg put together a clinic detailing the change over from DC to DCC and all the problems and solutions the club had to deal with. To view a copy of this clinic, please click here. The Thunderbird Model Railroad Club celebrated it's 50th Anniversary on August 2, 1999. The club commissioned Accurail to prepare two limited edition HO scale custom cars to commemorate this event. The first car is an Accurail Series 4800 Wood Side Refer (car numbers 86049 and 86099). The second car is an Accurail Series 2000 ACF 3 Bay Covered Hopper (car numbers 47049 and 47099). Each car is priced at $13.00 plus shipping and handling. Shipping and handling charges within the United States are: $2.75 for 1 car, $4.75 for 2 cars, and $5.25 for 4 cars.
