One of the first modifications I made
to my live-steamer Argyle
Bantam was to add radio control
to the regulator. Since the prototype
for the loco was a saddle tank mining lokie it had very little
room for the necessary gear in its
cab so I made a tender
to carry the receiver, antenna and battery pack.
However, that tender was pretty agricultural
so the time came to make a new one, more of a scale model.

The tender is made of .80 Evergreen
styrene sheet with Ozark Miniatures details added,
in particular the handrail stanchions
and brake wheel. The rear steps started life on a
Bachmann 10-wheeler tender.
The water hatch is scrath-built, with
brass nails used for rivet heads. The reversing light
is lifted from a cheapie toy and the
rear ladder is brass rod and channel.
Trucks are MDC kits. They ride on cedar
wood bolsters glued to the styrene chassis.
The battery, R/C receiver and antenna
live under the wood load.
The wood is real twigs split with a craft knife and glued in place using white glue.
I thought a new steel type cab would suit the Bantam too....
