The former Santa Fe lines now operated by Burlington Northern & Santa Fe through New Mexico are scenic and busy. This is a look at the main line between Abo Canyon and Gallup and the Raton Line from Dalies to Chapelle.

Our tour starts in Abo Canyon east of Belen, New Mexico. BNSF Dash 9-44CW 786 in Santa Fe warbonnet paint leads an eastbound through a deep cut. (9/29/99)

TT3001

Locomotives in Santa Fe's yellow-and-blue aren't very common leading trains, but SD45-2 5853 was in charge of an eastbound near sunset. (9/29/99)

TT3002

Bridge One marks the western end of Abo Canyon and the beginning of flat terrain to Belen. BNSF Dash 9-44CW 4792 leads an eastbound across Bridge One. (9/29/99)

TT3003

At Becker we find a water tank and pump house, reminders of Santa Fe steam. Santa Fe Dash 8-40CW 902 leads a westbound stack train past the tank. (9/29/99)

TT3004

Another water tank is found at Dalies, the junction of the Santa Fe main line and the line over Raton Pass. The eastbound Southwest Chief swings onto the Raton line at the junction. Next stop -- Albuquerque. (10/1/99)
