LUDDENHAM is the name of the station
and passing loop at the highest point on the mainline (at the back of
the garden) and serves the Shire’s administrative centre. Luddenham
station itself is an island platform. Platform 1 at Luddenham services
trains along the mainline to Bigglestown South, Bigglestown, and Turrella
Terminus in the Up direction and trains along the Girlieville Branch
in the down direction. Platform 2 services trains on the passing loop
which are on their way to Coal Creek. This platform also acts as the
exchange siding for locos on ore trains to and from Coal Creek Quarry.
Therefore this station can get quite busy at times with station master
having to manage a wide variety of traffic at regular intervals.
(Nomenclature: Luddenham also shares its name with a small town (now
suburb) west of Sydney, at the foot of the Blue Mountain which was pioneered
in the late 19th Century by the ancestors of the present CME of the
Turrella Tramway.)
