| #2644 was the first locomotive
modified by David Wardale in South Africa, under
the guise of reducing lineside fires. The
locomotive was fitted with a dual Lempor exhaust
system, the Gas Producer Combustion System, and
other minor improvements. Crews called her Spooky
because of her quiet exhaust. This photo appears
to have been taken during early trials of the
modifications as the engine was later equipped
with a larger "torpedo" tender (known
as a Vanderbuilt tender in the U.S.) Additional photos of 2644
