U&D 8 makes easy work of a nice sized freight. The earlier, lighter, locomotives were well suited to this work until the line was completed to Oneonta in 1900 and a connection with the Delaware & Hudson Railroad was made. The resulting longer and heavier trains were too great for the smaller engines. They were soon put out to pasture. Joseph A. Smith Collection.
