History

Built: 1996
Ran as: Princess Tours (MSEX) 7087

Princess’ cars operate in five car sets, lettered A through E, in order. They are arranged so the location of kitchens and dining rooms makes serving meals easier and more efficient. Princess’ cars operate at the end of the Alaska Railroad’s Denali Star passenger train between Anchorage and Fairbanks, AK.

Cars 7086 and 7087 are designated as A cars. They were built in 1996 at CRM’s former Denver shop. The kitchen is on the leading end of the car, with the dining room at the back. Like the other cars in the Princess fleet, the 7086 and 7087 seat 88 passengers upstairs, and 32 in the dining area.

The A cars are equipped with an ADA accessible restroom, and have wheelchair lifts built into the outside platform to lift passengers from the ground to the lower level of the car. At this time there is no provision to move ADA passengers to the cars’ dome levels, but the lifts will be added as part of a general refitting and renewal of the cars during the 2005-2006 winter off-season.
