Lounge/Parlor Car:

The six hi-level parlor cars on the Coast Starlight are former ATSF Lounges 575-580 built in 1956 by the Budd company. They became Amtrak 9970-9975. When they were HEPd, a "3" was added the their numbers and they became 39970-39975. 39970, 72, 73, 74, and 75 currently operate on the Starlight as Parlour cars. 39971 ran in then-known San Diegan service, but its current whereabouts is vague ranging to currently being in-service to sitting at Beech Grove shops out of service. I hope to dig up more information on this car in the future. Stay tuned!

**** Regarding 9922: Train entered 35 mph curve
at 80mph. this car shot over a waist high retaining wall shearing off
