Canadian National Photos - Tim Vermande

One of Canada's two transcontinental lines, CN was formed in 1919 from several financially troubled railroads. CN's holdings included three United States railroads that gave it access to major markets: Grand Trunk Western, Duluth Winnipeg and Pacific, and Central Vermont. In a 1970 reorganization, they were given more autonomy as divisions of the Grand Trunk Corporation. In 1989, CV was sold, and in 1992, the remainder were re-integrated as Canadian National North America, along with later acquisition Illinois Central.

Grand Trunk Western units in the "GT wet noodle" scheme will be found in the Grand Trunk Western listings. Photos of units in the "Canadian National North America" and later schemes, marked CN and sublettered "GTW," will be found here.
