Canadian Pacific Photos - Tim Vermande
Canadian Pacific is one of Canada's two transcontinental railroads. As does CN, it originates on the east coast, and consolidates into a main line between Montreal and Toronto. Three westward routes emerge from Toronto. One runs along the north shore of Lake Superior to the west coast. The second goes to Windsor. At one time, trains ran over CSX's line through Michigan to reach Chicago; now they use NS's former NYC line across Indiana. The third goes through Hamilton and into the Niagara peninsula. CP has long owned a major share of Soo Line. In 1990, it took full ownership--and, much like CN's United States properties--restructured it so that much of its identity was lost.
