CSX Photos - Tim and Sherrie Vermande

"CSX" is an acronym: Chessie, Seaboard, multiplication symbol. Above left: multiplication was lost in the first color scheme choice as the cat disappeared in a coat of dull grey (Cincinnati, June 1996). Center: older equipment often kept its paint but was renumbered, giving the cat another life (Cincinnati, May 1995). Right: the cat didn't return, but some color eventually did (Troy, October 1995). With its heritage of a large number of predecessor lines and color schemes, the changes seemed to let up only in time for the shared acquisition (with NS) of Conrail.
