California Department Of Transportation's Division of Intercity Rail Program's Rail Passenger Car Technology Branch and Amtrak have selected a number of Superliners to be converted into corridor coaches for use on the Pacific Surfliner, San Joaquin, and Capitol Corridor routes to augment capacity. The cars being rebuilt with funds made possible through the Caltrans Division of Rail, were built by the Pullman Standard Company in Kensington, Illinois in 1978. They were originally wrecked, derailed, damaged, or otherwise stored or surplussed. They had accidents at various locations around the country, as well as Georgetown, Ontario, Canada. The cars in the top table are completed conversions that are assigned to the Oakland pool. The cars in the bottom table will be assigned to Los Angeles, for use on the Surfliners. All of the cars have had the run-through cabling installed, so that they are able to be operated in push-pull service. New seats, carpeting, stairwell linoleum, vestibule flooring, and new lavatory inclosures have been installed, giving the cars a fresh new look.
Cars in the table are painted in the Blue/Orange/Gold scheme, with the Blue and Green "CT" Logo. Cars in the bottom table are painted in Surfliner Blue/Silver/White and will also have the "CT" Logo and are assigned to the Northern California Services Equipment Pool, which is dispatched from the Oakland Coach Yards.
