17th Annual WNYRHS Winter
Train & Toy Show 2008 Review

by Katie Kocsis

The 17th Annual WNYRHS Winter Train & Toy Show was held this past February 23rd and 24th, 2008 at the Agri-Center at The Fairgrounds in Hamburg, New York. It was a great success! Compared to the February 2007 show, the attendance was up by 700 with over 5200 people coming through the doors. In addition, we had several new dealers and more tables were added. As a special (non rail related) treat; Monk’s Bread was present on Saturday and they gave away free loafs of their delicious bread to all those in attendance. The Maple Cinnamon was great!

This year, the Society had several railroad layouts for the public to admire. The Flower City Tinplate Trackers “O” Gauge, Niagara Orleans Model Railroad Engineers “HO” & “N”, WNY Garden Railway Society “G” and the WNY Model Engineers “O”. Small dealer layouts such as the Rock Springs Station and Aurora Rails displays drew a lot of admiration from the crowd.

In addition, the Niagara Frontier Live Steamers and Dick Britton’s Circus Train had great displays that people of all ages enjoyed. Madd Matt’s NASCAR Racing, Fun City’s Train ride and Niagara Hobby’s Thomas Play area provided fun for the little kids. The Society also sponsored a Chinese Auction that raised money for the Williamsville Depot restoration. We would like to thank Niagara Hobby & Craft Mart and Aurora Rails & Hobbies for their generous donations of door prizes.

If anyone has any questions, concerns or comments about this past show or future shows, please let me know. I will help you out any way that I can. We are always looking to improve the show and welcome any suggestions that a member may have. Feel free to contact me at   kitkatkatie@roadrunner.com

If you were not able to attend this winter's show, please plan ahead for our huge 27th Annual Greater Buffalo Fall Show in November. For those of you that came to this show, we hope you enjoyed yourself and that we will see you again!
