The back end was painted in mid September.

The roof received its final coat of black paint early in September. Next was to get the back end ready for paint. That was finished on 9/14 as it was painted in aluminum paint. Grab irons were cleaned up and painted black. They will be reinstalled on the locomotive later. Next to be painted will be the upper panels that house the shutters and air filters. These will be painted in aluminum paint.

Two inch numbers were added during the first week of September. Thanks to Howard Wise for providing the original EMD stencil drawings. The other grab iron will be added later (and both will be painted black).

Final prep work is done on the back end of 918. Most of the prep work was done earlier this year and painted with Zynolite to keep the rust from coming back.

Dupont self-etching primer was used after final sanding was finished. A couple last minute patches were done.

After lightly sanding the primer fine sandpaper and a Scotch-Brite pad, it was ready for Aluminum paint.

All painted... except for the door. It needs a few repairs and will be done later. Grab-irons and coupler lift bars will be painted black. The orange paint from the sides will wrap around a few inches (to the weld seams) later.
