The Denver Pacific Railway and Telegraph Company was incorporated in Colorado on November 19, 1867. It is also known as the Denver Pacific Railway. The line was built from Cheyenne to Denver, CO in 1869-1870. The first train from Cheyenne arrived in Denver June 24, 1870. In time the Kansas Pacific secured control of the Denver Pacific. This move allowed KP access to Denver from Jersey Junction, three miles north of Denver.

On January 24, 1880, the Kansas Pacific, Denver Pacific and the Union Pacific Company merged into the Union Pacific Railroad Company.
