Railfanning At Fairport, NY On The Erie Canal

After leaving North Chili, I stopped and had lunch at Mighty Taco (at their first location in Rochester, you have to eat a taco or burrito at this place, it's a staple in Buffalo!), then had ice cream at Friendly's and drove out to Lyndon Road in Fairport, NY near CP-359 which is where the CSX West Shore Sub (Former Conrail West Shore Branch) rejoins the CSX Rochester Sub (Former Conrail Chicago Line). One thing I noticed during my visit this year is an abundance of new signals going in as CSX is getting this mainline set up for Positive Train Control (PTC) and the new signals are part of the conversion. I am a railroad history buff and thus miss the old New York Central signals that have been on this line for so many years but progress requires that infrastructure be updated as time goes on. Included here are photos during my visit on this 89 degree day in Fairport! Enjoy...
In this telephoto view from Lyndon Road, you can see the new signals have been installed but not yet placed into service
at CP-359. I do like the fact that the old stone milepost marker from the New York Central days is still there.

Walking along the tow path on the Erie Canal, you can see a view of the new signals. Having them turned to the side like this
is the same idea as new traffic lights on a city street hanging from the wire but covered in plastic as they're not in service yet.

OK back to some more trains! Here we have eastbound CSX Train Q-156 with GE ES40DC #5323 leading. The signal in the foreground
is for the end of the West Shore Sub. You can see the new signals are much taller than the old ones they're replacing.

Next up is westbound Amtrak Train #63 - The Maple Leaf with GE P42DC #150 leading. This train is headed for Toronto.

And now, visitors from the west head through Fairport with CSX Train K-011 being lead by BNSF GE ES44DC #7863.

Next up is eastbound Amtrak Train #64 - The Maple Leaf which started its journey this morning in Toronto and is
headed for New York's Penn Station with GE P42DC #103 on the head end as it flies through Fairport.

As I was saying earlier, I was railfanning along the Erie Canal. Here is a view of the canal looking east from the bridge on Lyndon Road.
Now let's head back into the City Of Rochester for my final destination on this trip, the High Falls on the Genesee River!
