UP 480 in Memorial Park at  North Platte, NE, 5/20/02. A beautiful locomotive featuring a Vanderbuilt tender (cylindrical water tank)!

UP 561 in Pawnee Park at Columbus, NE, 4/29/07.  One can note the substantially larger boiler compared to #280.
Alco 4-6-6-4
UP 3977 on display in Cody Park at North Platte, NE, 8/04/06.   This is a sister locomotive to 3985, but features  "elephant ear" smoke deflectors . 

Alco 2-8-8-2
UP 4017 on display at National Railroad Museum at Green Bay, WI, 9/17/02.  25 of these magnificent "Big Boy" locomotives were built between 1941 and 1944 for heavy freight service between Salt Lake City, UT, and Cheyenne, WY.  They were in service until 1959. Eight Big Boys are preserved today.  Although Big Boys are often credited with being the largest and most powerful locomotive built; in fact there are other loco's with superior  numbers in any of  several "size metrics".
