"Big Boy" UP 4004 on display in Cheyenne, WY, 8/08/02.  Although Big Boys are often credited with being the largest and most powerful locomotive built; in fact there are other loco's with superior numbers in any of several "size metrics". Eight Big Boys are preserved today.

UP 4017 on display at National Railroad Museum at Green Bay, WI, 9/17/01.  25 of these magnificent "Big Boy" locomotives were built between 1941 and 1944 for heavy freight service between Provo, UT, and Cheyenne, WY.  They were in service until 1959.

UP 4014 "Big Boy" returns to Cheyenne, WY, 5/08/14.  4014 was built in 1941, worked until 1959, and displayed in Los Angeles, CA, until early 2014.  This locomotive returned to operational in May 2019.
