The Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage Railroad dates back to 1892 with the discovery of "silver-by-the-the-ton" in SW Colorado at the town now named Silverton. The DSNG now operates up to 3 tourist trains a day on the 100 mile round trip from Durango to Silverton, CO. They currently own 9 steam locomotives, 7 of which are operational.

DSNG 493 (not operational in photo) at Silverton, CO, 5/18/03.  Built as a standard guage 2-8-0 loco in 1902, it was converted by DRGW to narrow guage 2-8-2 in 1928.

This locomotive returns to service as an oil burner in 2020 and it's life is the cover story in the May 2020 TRAINS.
