GP40 #3214
In June 1994, heading east on Track # 1 through North Evans, New York, we see Conrail #3214, an EMD GP40.  This was one of a total of 175 original units of this kind, mostly built for New York Central, but some units were purchased from EMD as well as by the Penn-Central prior to the start of Conrail.  By 1995, this unit was sold by Conrail to the Guilford Rail System and subsequently renumbered MEC #320.  To go back to the top, Click Here.  To go back to the Roster Shots Page, Click Here.

SD40 #6357
Seen in North Evans, New York in June 1994 pulling an eastbound freight on Track #2.  Conrail inherited its fleet of SD40's from such railroads as Penn Central, and the Central Railroad of New Jersey. The unit seen here is the highest numbered in the series and  was built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1966 as #6104.  It later worked on the Penn-Central until Conrail's start in 1976. Conrail utilized SD40's system-wide for many years.  In October 1994, just 4 months after this photo was taken, this unit was retired from Conrail and subsequently sold to EMD Leasing and renumbered #6430.  By early 1996, all SD40's were stored, scrapped or sold by Conrail. Personally, the SD40 is actually my all-time favorite Conrail locomotive.  Unfortunately, I didn't get into railroad photography until Conrail began retiring these units.  So this is the only photo I have of them in service.  For more detailed information about these locomotives, as well as some prototype photos, check out the Conrail Cyclopedia.  To go back to the top, Click Here.  To go back to the Roster Shots Page, Click Here.

C30-7 #6601
Seen here in Derby, New York, at the Sturgeon Point Road Crossing, paired up with a Dash 8-40B.  Conrail purchased only 10 of these units, which have the distinction of being the first locomotives ever purchased by Conrail since becoming a railroad.  They were numbered 6600-6609.  Based on current Conrail locomotive rosters, these units are no longer in service today.  If anyone out there in Cyberspace knows what ever happend to these units, please send me some E-Mail and I will post the information here. C30-7 #6602
Here is another C30-7, this time seen at the old (now gone) Depot Street crossing in August 1994.
