MCR102

The #102 was one of two wide vision cabooses purchased new from International in 1962. The #102 was placed into storage at McCloud in the early 1980’s as traffic levels dropped to the point that only one caboose was needed in day-to-day operations. The car was vandalized heavily over the next 10 years of inactivity. The McCloud Railway decided to re-activate the caboose in late 1995/early 1996 for the budding excursion business, and it was completely re-built, receiving a new paint job in the process. The caboose was used on excursions until the damage to the #101 forced it into the day-to-day freight operations. The caboose was heavily damaged by fire during the fall of 2002, but it was re-built. The car is used to this day on all Sierra and Yard & Hill jobs due to the long back-up moves found on both jobs.
