McCloud Rails : Equipment & Rolling Stock Details

| MCR 2000, 2002, 2004-2006 |
| These seven cars are “hospital” cars, built to transport wreck-damaged cars that cannot move on their own wheels to repair facilities. The McCloud shops built these cars around 2000 under contract; however, they remained on the McCloud roster until early 2004, when all but two of the cars (#2001 and #2003) were sold to Jim Dobbas Incorporated. They have been seen on the Union Pacific wearing the JDIX reporting marks of their new owner. The cars were re-built from old Canadian National Railroad automobile transport cars. |

In July 2003 a Union Pacific freight derailed at Small siding, just north of Dunsmuir. UP borrowed a couple of the MCR hospital cars to help with the derailment cleanup. These photos show the McCloud’s hospital cars at Small and were taken by and are presented here courtesy of Ryan Wilkerson (http://www.shastarails.com). |
