The Railfan Railroad Overlook in Cassandra is one of the premier railfan locations in Central Pennsylvania. The old bridge is visited by thousands of railfans from across the country each year. The small town atmosphere along with shaded benches and great photographic capabilities makes for a great time to be had by all. Rolling under the old iron bridge are approximately 60 Norfolk Southern trains a day. Amtrak also runs 2 trains over the 3 track mainline. Located at milepost 255.9, Cassandra is only miles away from such places as Lilly, Cresson, Gallitzin, and the world famous Horseshoe Curve. From Altoona, take US-22 west to the Portage exit. At the stop sign at the ramp, take a left, and go south on PA-53. You'll go thru Lilly, and within 3-4 miles, you'll descend the hill above Cassandra, and need to look for the "Railroad Overlook" and Cassandra directional signs. Make a very sharp (almost a U-turn) right turn, and follow the road into Cassandra (past D's Quick Stop). At the "T" intersection in town, turn right at the "Railroad Overlook" sign. Follow this road until it dead ends. A "Welcome Railfans" sign is located at the entrance to the overlook. - Directions provided by Frograil.

Located in town and within a short walking distance of the bridge is D's Quick Stop. The small store is run by John (who is also the mayor) and offers hats, t-shirts, and other railroad memorabilia. When visiting the store, don't forget to sign the book! Thousands of railfans from all across the country have added their names to the on going collection. Don't be left out! If you’re in need of a motel room, D's Quick Stop has rooms available. They are nicely furnished with TV’s and private bathroom.
