Railfan Pictures of the Week - 08/03/2003 Part Three

The Frankford Swing is almost complete. The Philadelphia Inquirer has an article about it here. You can find a Yahoogroup devoted to Philadelphia Traction here.

Not since my grandfather was younger than I am now has this block of Frankford Avenue seen the light of day.

While the station may be open tomorrow, the area around it will still be a bit disheveled for some time.
One last glimpse of the old from the new.
The first test train slowly moves through the new station. To my eye, the new building has a bit of old style train shed feeling.
Compare this picture taken August 1 with the same intersection in the second picture here.
And from the other side of the street, something no one has seen in 80 years.
