Railfan Pictures of the Week - 10/09/2005

CSX Trenton Line Neshaminy Falls PA September 28 2005

Continuing the removal of wires over now freight-only tracks, SEPTA had its wire train on the CSX Trenton Line between Neshaminy and Langhorne. The wire over this track has not been used since Conrail and SEPTA removed the switch at Neshaminy Falls that connected the freight Trenton Line Track 1 (now the controlled siding between Berry and Nesh) with the passenger West Trenton Line Track 2, and the contact, or trolley, wire had been removed.
After the adventures of the previous days (here and here), SEPTA had both BL15 50 and RL1A 60 as power for the wire train. It would need to clear up the line for CSX freights during the day as it did shortly after this picture was taken, pulling onto the siding at Nesh to let Q172 by.
The train was heading north at walking speed as they removed the connecting hardware.
The train stopped at each insulator as workers secured the catenary, or messenger, wire, which will remain, at least for the time being. It currently extends up to Woodbourne.
They have already removed the auxiliary wire and were removing the dangling hangers.
