Click here to see a brand new MARC HHP-8 # 4912 that has just been delivered to Penn Coach Yard in Phila. Pa. The locomotive is still wrapped in plastic and has its wheels secured with wooden wedges. It will be tested by Amtrak before being accepted by MARC. 2/2/02.


Click here for a view of the yaw damper bracket (on MARC HHP-8 # 4912), the triangular part of a shock absorber, black and silver in the center of the photo, that is attached to the carbody by seven bolts. The function of the yaw dampers is to prevent swaying, which can increase wear and tear to rails and train wheels. Engineers haven't pinpointed the reason why the brackets on the high-tech shock absorbers are cracking. 2/2/02
