The exact history of this car is presently unknown, although it most likely started life as an Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe drop bottom gondola built around 1910.  At some point the car was acquired by the Colorado & Wyoming and by the 1930's it was used as a base for a home built wrecking crane.  The car was later rebuilt to it present configuration and served the C&W into the 1990's.  The Colorado & Wyoming Railway was operated by the CF&I Steel and ran west from Trinidad, Colorado to serve coal mines in the area.  The line was abandoned in 2003.
