"Telegraph Line to the Klondike"
Announced 02 September 1897

The Dominion Government in Ottawa, Ontario, has made application to the
United States Government to be permitted to construct a line of telegraph
from a navigable point on the Lynn Canal to Tagish, across the summit, a
distance of nearly one-hundred miles, so that telegraphic communication
may be had with the interior of the Yukon Territory all year round. This
would place the Klondike within a couple of weeks' travel of
	communication with the outside world.
