Amtrak Train Information:

Train Name Route

SHENANDOAH

[ Washington, DC - Cumberland, MD - Parkersburg, WV - Cincinnati, OH ]

Discontinued in October 1981

Amtrak Hancock, WV Station was located about 20 miles west of the Martinsburg, WV.  Amtrak started operating Blue Ridge (DC - Cumberland) in May 1973, but the first Blue Ridge time table issued on June 10, 1963 did not show Hancock Station.  Amtrak Timetable issued on October 28, 1973 first showed Hancock Station (please see below).

When Shenandoah (DC - Cincinnati) was introduced on October 31, 1976, Blue Ridge between Cumberland and Martinsburg was truncated.  At that time, the first Shenandoah timetable issued on October 31, 1976 did not show Hancock Station (not sure if Shenandoah really had not stopped Hancock).  Amtrak Timetable issued on February 3, 1980 showed Hancock Station again (please see below).

Amtrak ended service to Hancock in October 1981 due to discontinuance of Shenandoah.  At the same time, Amtrak introduced new service, Capitol Limited (DC - Chicago) running over the same route between DC and Cumberland, but the trains no longer stop at Hancock.
