New Ferrymead Park Road and Entrance Opened

2/9/99

The new access road from Bridle Path Road to the Park, Ferrymead Park Drive, was opened on September 2. The new Park office, located by the church near the end of Truscotts Road, was opened and the Park staff have now moved into the renovated building.

The relocation of the Park entrance means the Railway and Tramway will no longer be "essential" services for transporting passengers from one end of the complex to the other. This could have profound effects on the operations of both groups, although it will simplify opening of the Park during the week, a time when hitherto it was necessary to employ a tram driver at considerable cost. Since the entrance was opened, the Railway has ceased Saturday services, although their profitability has in fact been marginal for years.
