  • The track into Road 1 of the running shed was recently lifted to allow the drains to be dug up. The hole was dug fairly deep in order to rectify blockage of the ash pit water drain. Last year the Electric Locomotive group dug up part of the drain beside the branch where it had been accidentally blocked by concrete pourage.
  • Our track gang replaced a further 16 sleepers in the straight between Truscotts Crossing and Duncans Bridge on 25th May. They expect to be back at work again on 8th June.
  • DE 1429 ran a passenger train at Ferrymead on the Saturday of Queens Birthday weekend. A new agreement with the Park is likely to see more trains being operated at times where it has not always been economic to do so in the past, such as the middle of winter.
  • The track that was laid between the workshop and the carriage shed has been lifted to allow the company working on the carriage shed to close in the side of the shed. In recent years this track was home to several spare Vulcan bogies, spare steam locomotive driving axles and TR 54.
  • Boxing has been constructed to pour the concrete footings for the doors at the front of the carriage shed. This work is being carried out by an engineering company and will include the erection of a portal frame attached to the front of the shed to support the weight of the six pairs of doors. A pair of steel door frames have been fitted to the side entrance to the shed.
  • Our longserving executive members Colin Dash and Bruce Shalders will be attending the Federation Conference in Gisborne at Queen's Birthday Weekend along with Michael Anderson for the Diesel Traction Group. One of the presentations made at this year's conference will be on a proposed national database of blueprints. The presentation will include work done on our own collection of thousands of blueprints, maps and plans by members of our Society and the Garden City Model Railroad Club.
  • It is understood that the Crossing Keepers hut and one of F 78 or F 79 have been entered in the Federation's national awards this year. Ferrymead has won a number of Federation awards in the past including steam locomotives CB 113, F 13 and WD 357.
