D 140 Restoration Progress Report

14/5/2002

Work is continuing at a steady pace on the restoration of steam locomotive D 140. This locomotive has been one of our most extensive restorations ever because of the number of parts that have had to be manufactured and I am sure the restorers will deserve some kind of award when it is finally completed.

  • Boiler: Longitudinal stays and the remaining firebox stays are being installed by our fitting staff. The steam dry pipe has also been fitted. The imminent completion of this work should clear the way for the boiler to be tubed by Lyttelton Engineering. The new ashpan and smokebox also await installation.
  • Tanks: The newly built tanks are nearly complete with the balance pipe still to be fitted.
