Crossing Keepers Hut To Remain As Is

25/12/00

Earlier this year, when restoration of the crossing keepers hut at Moorhouse was commenced, plans were announced to relocate it to the south end of the station platform and convert it to a signalbox.

However in consultation with Rail Heritage Trust we have been advised this is the only remaining crossing keepers hut in NZ, consequently we are now keeping it as a CK hut but it will be repositioned on the east side of the yard by the foot crossing and used as the CK hut on busy running days when a crossing keeper is on duty.

Our requirements for a signalbox at Moorhouse South could be met by constructing an entirely new building from plans.
